We are currently looking for men, women, boys & girls to join our following squads:

  • Junior 12
  • Junior 14
  • Junior 15
  • Junior 16
  • Junior 18
  • Novice (over 18 - 30 with no rowing experience)

Rowing is a very strenuous sport and as a result you need to have a basic level of fitness if you would like to join.

You will be coached by coaches ranging in experience from competeing in National Championships to international and World Championship level.

A good background to have in order to join our Novice squad would be GAA, Rugby, Athletics, Triathletes, Running and Cycling.

For athletes over the age of 15 a typical weeks training will include supervised weight training, running, indoor rowing, flexibility and of course rowing.

Please contact us via our contact page for further information.

Thanks and congratulations to all who contributed to a most successful and enjoyable day’s racing on Saturday. The level of co-operation and teamwork was second to none and a pleasure to be part of.

In total the club enjoyed eight wins on the day;

Men’s Intermediate 2X (Collins/Murphy),
Men’s J14 4X+ (stroked by Daniel Buckley),
Women’s open eight – fastest women’s crew of the day by a considerable distance and 9th fastest crew overall,
Marie O’Neill put one of the new sculls to good use when winning the women’s Inter scull in the fastest time of the day for any women sculler.
A young women’s J18 quad crew had a fine win stroked by the experienced Stephanie O’Donavon
An even younger women’s J18 double crew of Sarah Higgins & Eithne O’Donavon recorded a fine win in a strong field.
The ladies J16 quad of Rachel Willis, Eve Shanahan, Katie Mackey & Sarah Higgins steered by Sinead Green had a fine win from Skibereen
Orla McGrath overcame illness to win the Women’s Junior scull in a fast time of 16.55.

In addidion to the above our crews were 2nd in the following; Men’s J18 4X-, Men’s J18 double and Men’s J14 quad.

Many thanks to all the parents including Jackie Stone, Susan McGrath, Val Collins and Mrs Clarke for running the club cafe on the day and raising much needed funds for the club.

Well done to all!

Terence

Presidents Dinner 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Donald Cronin
Monday, 16 March 2009

The Presidents Dinner took place at Greens Restaurant on Saturday the 14th of March.

Over 35 members attended the event.  Many of the attendees would not have been recognized by the oarsmen and women rowing out of Cork Boat Club today but it is well understood that without their efforts the club would not be in the strong position that we enjoy today.

We would like to encourage past members to come down to the club again and in order to make this a little bit more appealing we will be opening the club viewing bar for tea and coffee every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 12.30pm.

Please feel free to email any rowing photos that you may have or alternatively drop them down to us and we will have them scanned and placed on the website in our photo gallery .

Hope to see you soon.
