The club enjoyed a successful outing at the NRC Inniscarra lake on Saturday. The event had to be relocated there due to the fact that the Shannon was in flood at the usual O’Brien’s Bridge venue.

In glorious weather and very good rowing conditions for most of the day, the Club recorded fine victories in the Ladies Junior 18 coxless quod and ladies Junior 15 coxed quod, as well a very good performance from our Mens Intermediate 8 crew, which despite a collision at the end of their race – which caused them to stop - still finished just 9 seconds behind the winners UCD.

  • The ladies Junior 18 coxless quod ‘A crew of bow Orla McGrath, Karolyn Walsh, Grace Collins and Stroke Stephanie O’Donavon finished in a time of 11.39 twenty seconds ahead of the ‘B crew of Bow Sinead Geeene, Fiona Burke, Sarah Madden and stroke Orla Daly, with St Michaels, Tribesmen and Monkstown in 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively. The winning crew contained Irish Junior International Karolyn Walsh at 2 and this squad is training very hard and hoping for a good season ahead. This grouping also finished 2nd in the ladies jnr 18 double scull (Mc Grath/Murphy) with a second boat club double of (Daly/O’Donavon) just 1 second further back.

  • The ladies Junior 15 coxed quod of Bow Eve Shannahan, Linda Murphy, Niamh Fehily, Stroke Eithne Mc Sweeney and cox Sorcha Gilroy came home in a time 12.17 which easily won their section. Their time would also have comfortably have won the ladies jnr 16 section. This group had a great season last year and their coaches expect more of the same this year.

  • In addition to the above there were good performances from our Mens Senior Coxless Quod and  Junior 19 mens sculler James Moroney,

  • The event marked their first race in ‘Boat Club Colours’ for the ladies junior coxed quod of Katie Mackey, Sarah Higgins, Siobhan O’Donavon and stroke Rachel Willis. Coxed by the excellent Ciara McSweeney they put in a respectable showing.

Head Coach Terence McGrath expressed satisfaction with the day’s outcome and thanked all coaches and athletes for their cooperation and efforts.
