The day to day running of any rowing club can be costly and when you've close to 100 junior members Cork Boat Club need to be continuosly fundraising. Well we thought we better let you know what your donated money is being spent on.
We have just purchased a second safety launch (speed boat) which is
used both for coaching purposes and also to ensure the safety of our
oars men and women. The safety launch comes complete with a built in
storage compartment which is ideal for storing our video equipment for
days when we are doing video work (recording the rowers and then going
through their technique with them after their water session).
We have also purchased a new coxless quad. A general weight boat
was opted for so that every oarsmen and women can benefit from the
purchase. In the past their was a tendencay to go for a heavy weight
or light weight boat as opossed to one that could be used by most
rowers.
Badly needed gym equipment will be delivered to the club in the
coming days. In order to ensure proper weightlifting techinque by our
over 18 oarsmen and women, we purchased standard Olympic Weightlifting
Federation barbells and plates. While extremely costly, the standard
plate size will ensure that correct technique is used during all lifts,
minimizing injury to those training. We will be one of only 3 gyms in
Munster to have standard Olympic Weightlifting Federation barbells and
plates.
The gym area upstairs has undergone substantial rennovation in order
to accomodate the new equipment and create a better training
environment for the oarsmen and women. Unfortunately the paint,
varnish, timber, adhesives etc. all cost money.
We are now looking to purchase a safety squat rack and an olympic bench press. Olympic Standard Weights
